Biography

Kostas is a quantitative ecologist and plant taxonomist.

His research interests span from investigating island and mountain biogeographical and biodiversity patterns to assessing the effects of climate and land-use change on plant species distribution, with an emphasis on range-restricted species.

Achievements

  1. He has been a Principal Investigator of the research program entitled: “Species on the brink of extinction” funded by HFRI & GSRT [2018-2021]
  2. He has been a Post-doctoral fellow funded by the SSF for the research program entitled “Greek biodiversity under siege: safeguarding the future” [2020 – 2022]
  3. He has received the best paper award for 2022 for his publication regarding the impacts of climate change on the Cretan single island endemics in MDPI Diversity
  4. He is a member of the IUCN Species Survival Committee
  5. He has served as a Board member of the Hellenic Botanical Society [2019-2022; Substitute member: 2022-2025]
  6. He has served as a Guest Editor for:
    1. a special issue of Sustainability
    2. another special issue of Land
    3. and a third special issue of Plants

Collaborations

  1. He collaborates closely with Prof. Panayotis Dimopoulos and Prof. Maria Panitsa and the Botany lab team

  2. He enjoys working with Prof. Trigas from the Department of Crop Science in the Agricultural University of Athens

  3. He also enjoys working with Prof. Halley and his EcoLab team

  4. Kostas has worked alongside Prof. Petanidou and the Biogeography & Ecology Lab in the University of the Aegean

  5. He has also worked with Prof. Kostas A. Triantis and Prof. Aristeidis Parmakelis from the UAMECO lab at the Department of Ecology and Systematics, Faculty of Biology in the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens

  6. Recently, he started collaborating with Prof. Kati and the Biodiversity Conservation Lab
